Jordan PHLYMichael Jordan wearing the PHLY. Video : Pic1 : Back in December 2007 Michael Jordan practiced with the Charlotte Bobcats and it got some attention. People thought the shoe he was wearing was the Air Jordan 23, but it turns out it was the Jordan PHLY. The name PHLY stands for "Pop Herring Laney." Pop Herring was Jordan's high school basketball coach at Laney High and if you know your history you'll know that "Pop" is the same coach that cut Jordan from the Varsity Basketball team. Even though Jordan was outraged and upset for being cut it ended up being the best thing for Jordan. When most people fail at something they usually give up, but you'll get that special person every once in a while who will use failure as a motivational tool and prove the doubters wrong. That is what makes Michael Jordan a legend.

A Jordan story. The 1997-98 NBA Season was the last for Michael Jordan as a Chicago Bull. During that whole season he wore various colors of the Air Jordan 13. But in the NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz fans saw a different shoe on Jordan's feet. At the time, nobody knew what it was and the TV cameras only showed brief glimpses of it at times. It was later discovered that MJ was wearing the next Air Jordan shoe, the AJ 14. The story is he wasn't supposed to wear that shoe. The shoe MJ wore was a prototype that the Jordan Brand company gave to him to get his opinion on. They wanted to know if MJ didn't like something on the shoe (in terms of design) so they could change it on the final production version. They never expected MJ to actually wear the prototype shoe during a game, especially not during the NBA Finals. But Jordan couldn't resist. He wore them during Game 6 of the NBA Finals and the greatest sequence of events in sports history occurred by the greatest basketball player ever. Video

Why Michael Jordan wore the number 12. Pic1 : Pic2 : Pic3 : A lot of you may not know this story, but during a game in 1990 against the Orlando Magic someone snuck into the Bulls locker room and stole Jordan's "23" jersey before the game. Unfortunately they did not have a spare jersey, so the Bulls had to give Jordan a number "12" jersey with no name on the back. After that game the Bulls made sure to bring plenty of extra "23" jerseys to all future games to avoid having the same problem again. In case you're wondering, Jordan wore the AJ 5 in that game.

Jordan 14.5. Pic1 : Pic2 : Pic3 : Pic4 : Pic5 : The release of this shoe is still months away. It's a combination of the Air Jordan 14 and 15, hence 14.5.

50,000 FAKE shoes seized in New York. An April 4 report states a warehouse in Flushing, NY was raided by the police where they discovered 50,000 pairs of fake shoes including Nike's and Air Jordan's. The total retail value (if the items were authentic) would be close to $16 million dollars. The report also states NYPD raided 32 stores in "Chinatown's Counterfeit Triangle" last month. Read the report

Jumpman Pro Retro. Pic1 : This is an early catalog image of the Jumpman Pro which originally came out in 1997. The Jordan Brand company plans to release it again towards the end of this year.

Michael Jordan donates $500,000 to the Boys & Girls Club. Pic1 : Pic2 : Pic3 : Michael Jordan announced he was making a $500,000 donation to the "Slidell Boys and Girls Club" to build a new gymnasium for the kids. This story reported on NBA.com.

Was it the shoes that helped MJ extend his basketball career? Yeah. Michael Jordan credits the invention and use of the carbon fiber shank plate in his shoes for prolonging his basketball career and helping him avoid any serious injuries. The Air Jordan XI (the one with the shiny patent leather) was the first Air Jordan shoe to have a carbon fiber shank plate. The carbon fiber shank plate took pressure off his knees and arches, which is why MJ insists on having some form of shank plate in his shoes even to this day.

Stop your shoes from squeaking. The Retro 10 and Retro 11 Low are prone to start squeaking after wearing them a few times. If you're having this problem you can try this: 1) Remove the insole; it's glued on so be careful removing it. 2) Pour some baby powder inside the shoe, then put the insole back in the shoe. We cannot guarantee this will stop the squeaking, but a lot of people who tried it said the squeaking has stopped. We're just passing along the tip.

The story behind the Nike "swoosh" logo. Who came up with the infamous Nike "swoosh" logo? It was actually designed by a female Portland State University student who received $35 from the founder of Nike to create the logo. Yes, you read that right. A lousy $35. But after Nike became successful they decided to give her some stock in the company along with a gold Nike ring. The swoosh logo is supposed to represent the wing of the Greek Goddess "Nike" who was the Goddess of Victory.

Jordan almost became a New York Knick. In Spike Lee's book, Best Seat in the House, Spike tells the story of how in late 1996 he and MJ were talking after shooting a commercial together. Spike asked MJ if there was ever a chance he could have left the Bulls and gone to the Knicks. MJ said, "There was a chance." Spike couldn't believe it. MJ went on to say, "Before I signed with Chicago last year, after we won, it came down to 30 minutes. New York was right downstairs. The Bulls---all they had to do was mess up." What Jordan meant by that is if Jerry Reinsdorf, the owner of the Bulls, had made an insulting offer MJ would have walked away and signed with the Knicks. Thankfully, the Bulls offered Jordan $30 million for a one year contract and the legend continued.

You can help shut down stores/websites that sell FAKES. Pic1 There are a ton of websites on the internet that sell Fake shoes. Ebay is full of Fakes. Fakes have even made their way into neighborhood stores. If you find Air Jordans in colors that were never released selling for really low prices (usually around $100 or less) that should trigger a signal in your head. Remember, if it's too good to be true it usually is. What's worse is that Fakes are also made in the same colors as the authentic pairs, which makes them harder to spot. What can you do to stop it? Nike is aware of this problem and they are cracking down on stores and websites that sell Fakes. They setup a special email address so you can report those websites or stores. Send an email to COUNTERFEIT@NIKE.COM If a website is selling fakes give them the link to the website. If you know of a store in your area that is selling Fakes give them the name and address of that store. Nike will investigate and take further action.
